Local ISP cans spam with SpamDam (sm)

Pacific Information Exchange, Inc. Launches SpamDam (sm) filtering service for free.

Pacific Information Exchange, Inc. (Pixinet) launched a pre-emptive strike against junk e-mail with the successful introduction of SpamDam (sm), a spam/virus e-mail blocking service provided by Brightmail, Inc. Pixinet has applied this service to all its core Internet domains, (pixi.com, aloha.com, hula.net, and pacinfox.com) after testing and fine tuning the service the past six months. This newest release of the Brightmail anti-spam software addresses the evolving methods spammers use to attack e-mail accounts.

“This service is unique to Pixinet and is included in our basic subscription fees“, stated Stan Kubota, President. “We found an incredible amount of spam traversing our network, sometimes as high as 75% of all e-mail traffic, and it seems to be consistent across the Internet. This service blocks almost all of this trash,” he said. Pixinet’s service also allows users to send in junk e-mail messages that leak through the system which are then including as part of the overall solution to blocking unwanted Internet solicitations. “These two courses of action have tremendously assisted us in eliminating unwanted spam from our customers e-mail”, he continued. “Spam accounted for almost a quarter of all e-mail this last quarter and is predicted to reach 50% by 2004”.

Pacific Information Exchange, Inc. (Pixinet) is the only Hawaii based Internet Service Provider (ISP) to feature this service and has been Hawaii’s leader in providing full service dial-up, high speed access, Internet Commerce, and web services since its launch as Hawaii’s first full service Internet provider in September 1994. Pixinet’s offices can be reached at 522-9393 for more information or account activation, or visit their web sites at pixi.com, aloha.com, or hula.net.
